Team
Shared expertise. Teams shaped around the work.
We intend to bring expert partners together around the skills each engagement needs. The proposed scope identifies an accountable lead and agreed specialists, rather than assuming a permanent roster.

How the team is composed
Capability pods, not seats on a bench.
Engagement responsibilities start with fit and discovery. Specialist participation is confirmed only where needed, so you are not funding a team shape that doesn't match your stage.
Architecture
Target architecture, domain modelling, integration design and the decision record behind each choice. Architecture leadership is named in the proposal.
Platform build
Full-stack delivery of the designed system — data model, application, integrations and deployment — so the architecture and the running product stay the same artifact.
AI and agent delivery
Agent design, tool and authority boundaries, evaluation harnesses and human-in-the-loop review paths for workflows an agent is allowed to run.
Corporate security
Access control designed into the database, secrets and key handling, evidence and audit paths, and readiness work against frameworks like SOC 2, NIST 800-171 and HIPAA posture.
ITSM and run
Service design, incident and change process, runbooks and support model — with ownership and support scope agreed before handover.
Enablement
Handover as a deliverable: documented model, working sessions with your engineers, and a defined point where your team takes the wheel.
Scaling with you
From a founding team of one to an organisation with a change board.
Startup
Architect + build
Small surface, fast loop. One architect designing and shipping, with security folded in from the first migration instead of retrofitted before your first enterprise deal.
Scale-up
Build + run
Delivery plus the operational spine — service design, runbooks, incident and change process — so growth doesn't turn into permanent firefighting.
Enterprise
Governance + enablement
Architecture review, ITSM alignment, vendor and AI governance, and a documented handover path to your own teams rather than an open-ended dependency.
Honest note
What "team" means here today — and how we cover you.
DeftSpan is founded and led by Niaz Khan and is growing. We are building a collective of expert partners, not claiming an established permanent bench. Participation, credentials, responsibilities and availability must be confirmed for each proposed engagement.
Founder & Principal Architect
Niaz Khan, Founder & Principal Architect. Responsibilities are agreed for each engagement.
Engagement lead
Your day-to-day contact: plan, status, risks. Named during scoping.
Forward-deployed engineers
Build and run alongside your people. Staffing, responsibilities and availability are agreed in the proposal.
Security & ITSM
Access control, audit trails, runbooks and change process.
Design & research
Interviews, process mapping and the screens people actually use.
Continuity rule
Backup arrangements and documentation responsibilities are specified for the agreed scope; they are not a universal staffing guarantee.
Roles other than the founder are shown as roles until the people are named. For talent and expert-partner interest — see careers.
Who is involved · what each receives
User
Department head / COO
Needs: A system that matches how the team actually works, not how the vendor imagined it.
Doubt: Custom software sounds slow, risky and hard to maintain.
Proposed deliverables · agreed in scope
- • A mapped real-vs-documented process
- • A running system for one department
- • Runbooks the team can follow
Buyer
CFO / finance lead
Needs: A cost case that holds against current seat spend and manual hours.
Doubt: The return will be asserted, not measured.
Proposed deliverables · agreed in scope
- • A baseline agreed before work starts
- • A 3-year rent-vs-own comparison
- • A measured result against that baseline
Approver
IT / security lead
Needs: Something supportable that does not add shadow IT.
Doubt: Another system the IT team will be left holding.
Proposed deliverables · agreed in scope
- • Architecture and data model documentation
- • Access control and audit design
- • A named handover plan
Affected
The team doing the work
Needs: Less re-keying and fewer workarounds.
Doubt: Automation will be imposed without asking them.
Proposed deliverables · agreed in scope
- • Shadowing time where their workarounds are recorded
- • Clear lines on what stays human
Access we ask for — and how you take it back
- • Read access to the department's tools and exports
- • Shadowing time with named team members
- • No production write access during the audit
Access is limited to the department in scope and logged.
Initial inquiry: non-sensitive summary only. Later assessment: authorised redacted samples or read-only access. Sandbox and production write access require separate approval, minimisation, access expiry and retention agreement.
Agree revocation, working-copy handling, retention exceptions and confirmation responsibilities before access.
Scoping
Tell us the stage you're at and we'll tell you the team shape.
Discuss your stage and constraints. Assessment scope, deliverables, staffing and availability require confirmation.
